In addition to build robots for FIRST competitions, our team participates in other activities throughout the year to learn skills we'll need during build season, such as brainstorming, teamwork, and working under a deadline.
For the last few years, some members from our team have participated in the annual Oregon Game Project Challenge and created an educational computer game in six weeks to teach its players about a selected topic. Using the skills that they've learned as a FIRST Robotics team, they have won the championship award at the competition several years for the combination of their game, their presentations to the judges and other teams, and gracious professionalism. The games originally had to be made using a program called Game Maker, but as of 2010 a second category was created for a game made with any method. There are now two OGPC teams made of PHRED students and two games entered into the competition.
